With the clocks changing at the end of October, the promise of winter is well and truly in the air. It’s the perfect time to hibernate at home and prepare for receiving visitors over the festive period. Help your customers make cosy choices by introducing the Scandinavian concept of Hygge.
Hygge (pronounced Hyoo-guh), is the notion of creating a cosy, happy life. A home filled with simple comforts, laughter, and togetherness.
We spoke to Lene Hansen, our territory manager (who is Danish), about what Hygge means to her.
“Growing up in a big farmhouse, it was important to make our home feel as cosy as possible. A huge part of this is reflected in lighting choices. Burning candles is an easy way to make a living space feel warm and inviting.”
Within the collections at Straits Trading, we have a large range of candle holders to suit any taste. Hurricanes and lanterns make a feature of your simple church candles, and pretty tealight holders play with the light and add sparkle.
The central idea of Hygge is spending quality time with family and friends. It’s said that sitting at the table to share a meal by candlelight will make the moment last longer. So, avoiding the electric lighting and opting for a candlestick as a centrepiece, can add value to your quality time.
Lene comments, “As cold winter evenings are closing in, Scandinavians are famous for decorating their homes to create that cosy atmosphere. An important part of this is putting up Christmas decorations and enjoying family time.”
Lighting plays a part in the Straits Christmas collection too. Pretty water spinners, floral candle holders, and adorable light-up decorations are all still available to order now.
