Straits Trading at Christmas

As a wholesale supplier, with a HUGE Christmas department, we are in the position where it’s Christmas year-round at Straits. It’s not unusual to be sat in the office in a summery outfit, windows open, fans spinning, while “Jingle Bells” tinkles away in the showroom. Often, followed by all of the office humming the tune for the rest of the day!

For us, and for many retailers, Christmas is big business. Christmas 2024 products are currently being selected and samples will be arriving soon. These will be scrutinised by Steve Webb, our sales director, while he makes his selection.

Our aim is to always offer our customers quality, variety, and competitive pricing.

Our Christmas 2023 stock has begun to arrive in the warehouse. While, the middle of summer might seem a strange time to be receiving Christmas stock, this planning serves us (and the customer) well.

We begin to sell Christmas products in January. The department goes live on the website and we attend the Harrogate Christmas and Gift fair. Next, we exhibit at the Spring Fair in February. Our order book is usually bursting after these two trade shows. Following the fair, we set up the new Christmas department in our showroom so that customers can visit and order, on a day to suit them. At the same time, we start posting brand new catalogues to all of our customers. On top of this, our sales team are out on the road, visiting customers and helping them make their selections.

Believe it or not, by March, we place our orders with our suppliers. This means that we can start receiving stock in summer. Many of our customers like to receive their Christmas orders in September.

It’s all a bit of a whirlwind! Thankfully, due to our forward planning and helpful customers' placing early pre-orders, we can ensure that shops can remain fully stocked throughout the busiest quarter in retail.

Last year, we were able to help a lot of customers who had been let down by their previous suppliers due to delays in shipping and increased costs.
